Kamat started his career as a filmmaker with the Marathi film "Dombivali Fast" in 2005, which won several awards at various film festivals. He went on to direct several Hindi and Marathi films, including "Mumbai Meri Jaan" (2008), "Drishyam" (2015), "Rocky Handsome" (2016), and "Madaari" (2016).

Apart from directing, Kamat also acted in several films, including "Saatchya Aat Gharat" (2004), "Hava Aney Dey" (2004), and "Rocky Handsome" (2016). He was also a writer and wrote the screenplay for several of his films.
Unfortunately, Kamat passed away due to liver cirrhosis and secondary infections in 2020. His death was widely mourned by the Indian film industry and his fans.
