McCullum's appointment with Cricket started in 1996 when he played for the U-17 Otago. McCullum holds the record for most Kid battery drums in a test contest under the age of 19. He broke 186 points against South Africa, under 19, in 2001.
His IPL debut could not be better. McCullum scored 158 * against 73 balls against the Royal Runner's Royal Challenger in Bangalore RCB in the first IPL match in 2008. He hit an objective for the Bourn Warwickshire Birmingham Bears Warwickshire.
