In 2014, Shora failed to contest the choice of the "Sexual Concern Committee against sexual persecution". In September 2015 she fought the JNU Student Union elections for Vice President's position, as a candidate from the Association of Indian Students supported and won AISA.
She became the first Kashmiri girl to win an election for the student union at the UN. In February 2016, when Kanhaiya Kumar, then president of JNUSU, was arrested along with other students for encouragement, it was Shora, who led the Union during the interim period.
