In his youth he joined RSS and began to visit his "Jackets". He did not know about films until he was 10 years old because he had no television and the nearest theater about 20 km away from his town. He tends to play in childhood and began at the age of 12 years as an artist at the Chhath festival in his village.
After the primary school, his father sent to Patna to continue his studies. Pankaj's father wanted him to become a doctor. During his studies in Patna he joined ABVP and began to participate in student movements.
He was an active student leader in his college in Patna and was also an eloquent speaker. He was also good at sports and represented his college in a high jump and 100 meters. He also attended Hotel Management and worked for two years as a cook at the Maurya Hotel in Patna.

He was very influenced by looking at Proscenium theater by Laxminarayan Lal entitled "Andha Kuan". He also cried a lot after watching the show. It was in Patna that he drew more attention to art. He began to visit games and theaters and became fascinated by acting.
He began to make friends with cyclists, automatic Wallas and artists, and asked him if he could play. In 1995 he appeared for the first time in Leela Nandlal's story, directed by Vijay Kumar as part of Bhism Sahni play. In the room he received a very small role of a local thief.
