Zoya Akhtar was born a poet, lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani scriptwriter. Shabana Azmi is her mother-in-law and Farhan Akhtar is his brother. She grew up in an agnostic environment; She does not believe in any religion.
She is the granddaughter of the famous poet Urdua Muztar Khairabadi background and Jan Nisar Akhtar's granddaughter.
