But when he was 17, his mother gave him INR 500, after he left his house to go to Mumbai. He was part of Ramleela, where he played the role of Sita. His first film, Pitambar, was a class B for which he was paid INR 5000.
He was recognized after "Tere Naam" in 2003, where he played the role of a priest named "Rameshwar". By chance, his father worked as a priest. So he inspired his character in the film. He is known for his famous dialogue "Zindagi Jhandwa ... Phir Bhi Ghamandwa".

He was a finalist in Bigg Boss 1 in 2006. In 2012 he participates in "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5." In 2014 he voted against the congressional party in the district Jaunpur Lok Sabha, but he lost Krishna Pratap Singh from the BJ Bharatiya Janata Party.
