His father married his mother when he was 8 years old. She is a lawyer by profession. In her youth she was a great athlete. She was not only a good rider, she also won many medals while shooting with guns.
In 1973 she began his career as an officer in the Indian diplomatic service and was ambassador to Spain, Mauritius and the United Kingdom until 1984. In 1980 she became a member of the Court of Justice of the Supreme Court.
Meira left his position in the IFS in 1984 to challenge Bijnor's election in Uttar Pradesh and defeated prominent leaders of "Dalit" Ram Vilas Paswan and Mayawati.
