Atal Bihari Vajpayee is born in Christmas Day in the Gwalior State, British India.
His ancestral town is Bateshwar in the Agrar district, Uttar Pradesh, and his grandfather, Pandit Shyam Lal Vajpayee, left Bateshwar for Brown, Madhya Pradesh. He received a graduate degree in Political Science by DAV College Kanpur.
He was educated at Gorkhi, Maharaja Bara, in Gwalior, at the same school, where his father, Krishna Bihari, was director between 1935 and 1937. His father was promoted to a school inspector and later became director. His father is also well-known for writing the school prayer.
