She studied dance under the tutelage of Vempati Chinna Satyam and Jaya Rama Rao. At the age of 17, she participated and won the Eve's Weekly Miss India competition in 1981. She also represented India at Miss International in 1981 in Tokyo, Japan.
She made her debut with Painter Babu by Hand Kumar, a Korean / Indian movie of 1983 next to Rajiv Goswami, the brother of Manoj Kumar.
