He began his career as an actor in the Doordarshan television series "Gul Gulshan Gulfaam" in 1987 and made his film debut with the film "Sir" by Mahesh Bhatt in 1993.
He was a popular actor in the 90's, who was known for his activities in films such as "Raja Hindustani", "Zakhm", "Bhai" and "Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke". At the age of 14, he stopped playing to concentrate on his studies.

He has won several prizes for playing in games, at school and in the university. His first film as a protagonist is Mahesh Bhatt's "Kalyug" 2005, based on the pornography industry. If he was not an actor, he would be a musician or writer.
He met Soha Ali Khan for the first time in the sets of their film "Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge" in 2009, but they did not talk much and thought they could never get friends. In the same year they joined during the filming of their film, '99' 2009.
His mother-in-law, Sharmila Tagore, offered to the pair apartment worth Rs. 9 million as "wedding gift".
