Due to harmful financial circumstances he could not study after the 7th year and he began to do things like selling feathers in the streets of Bombay, imitating Bollywood stars. He learned the only style of comedy in Yakutpura, an old city in Hyderabad.
Once, he imitated a number of prominents during action at Hindustan Lever Ltd. and from that day he was called Johny Lever. He began acting in orchestras and joined the group Kalyanji Anandji. He also worked for Hindustan Lever Ltd.
However, he left the company in 1981 because he did well on stage. He traveled the world with Kalyanji-Anandji.During one of his shows, the veteran actor Sunil Dutt realized his talent and gave him his first great rupture in the film Dard Ka Rishta.
